Just a few minutes ago, Real Madrid made the official announcement of Trent Alexander-Arnold through their social media. The deal includes a transfer fee of £10m that Real Madrid will pay to Liverpool. This allows Trent to play the FIFA Club World Cup with Real Madrid.
Trent Alexander-Arnold will begin his Real Madrid journey from 1st June 2025 and will stay at the club till 30th June 2031. Earlier, Real Madrid made an offer to Liverpool of £850,000, but Liverpool said no. After increasing the amount to £10m, Liverpool agreed.
He joined Liverpool’s academy when he was six years old. Since then, Trent has given everything to the club. Trent Alexander-Arnold has won all possible trophies for Liverpool, which includes two Premier Leagues, one Champions League, one FIFA Club World Cup, one FA Cup, two Carabao Cups, one UEFA Super Cup, and one Community Shield.
Real Madrid make Trent Alexander-Arnold Official
Since the day it was confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold is not extending his contract with Liverpool. Real Madrid was the most preferred destination for him.
As FIFA has opened a ten-day transfer window from 1st June to 10th June, it allows Trent to join the Los Blancos. His Liverpool contract was set to expire on 30th June, but with Real Madrid agreeing to pay a transfer fee for him, Liverpool had no issues as they don’t have any games left for this season and also don’t play in the FIFA Club World Cup.
This is surely one of the right times for Trent Alexander-Arnold to join Real Madrid. One of the reasons is that Xabi Alonso will start his new journey with Real Madrid, which allows Trent to be a part of his system from day one. The other reason is that he can surely gain all the experience from Dani Carvajal till the time he is at Real Madrid.
How does he fit in Xabi’s system?
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s profile is perfect for Real Madrid. His vision and pinpoint long balls to find his attackers are just out of this world. One thing is sure: he is defensively not that great, but with time and situation, he can surely adapt to it.
When we look at Xabi Alonso’s formation at Bayer Leverkusen, he played with a 3-4-3. The role of wingbacks in his team was very crucial. Trent can surely play as a wingback as well. Jeremie Frimpong, who played at the right wing-back position, played a lot in attack, and his numbers say that. There is no better attacking fullback than Trent in the market. He is also a defender who has the most assists in the Premier League.
If Xabi Alonso plays with a 4-3-3 formation, Trent’s role does not change much. For example, the right back of Real Madrid surely inverts a lot more and plays a lot up the pitch. He has a cover from the midfielder who plays on the right side, for example, Fede Valverde. One of the things that we didn’t see from Real Madrid this season was putting up good vertical balls.
Trent Alexander-Arnold surely masters this skill. One long ball and a perfect run from Kylian Mbappe or Vinicius Junior gives them an easy goal-scoring opportunity. He can make his Real Madrid debut on 14th June in the FIFA Club World Cup.
