The biggest match of the season is here. It is the UEFA Champions League Final, where Luis Enrique’s Paris Saint-Germain take on Simeone Inzaghi’s Inter at the Munich Football Arena tonight. The match kicks off at 9 PM (local time). Every fan has a question in their mind now: if Paris Saint-Germain wins the UCL, should Ousmane Dembele win the Ballon d’Or?

Ousmane Dembele is surely having the season of his life right now. He is scoring and assisting goals for fun. When we look at his statistics for this season, the numbers are just phenomenal. Dembele has played in 48 matches, scoring 33 goals and providing 11 assists.

If Paris Saint-Germain wins the UCL, should Ousmane Dembele win the Ballon d’Or?

This one game will surely decide who goes ahead in the race for the Ballon d’Or. Ousmane Dembele will surely focus and will want to win the game for his team and bring the UEFA Champions League trophy to Paris. This is what he had to say in yesterday’s press conference:

This has been a dream of mine since I was a child. I am very concentrated. This will be an unforgettable moment. I just hope tomorrow will be history in the making. Tomorrow will be a tense game. We know Paris will be vibrating with excitement

He also stated that he has his eye on the Ballon d’Or as well. Dembele should not focus a lot on the Ballon d’Or part because that can surely distract him. There can be two possibilities: one, he can have the best match of his life, and on the other hand, it can be a night to forget. Surely, he is a very mature and smart player, and knows that the team always comes ahead. This is what Dembele said when asked about the Ballon d’Or:

I feel the same questions have been asked several times now. When you are a PSG player, the important thing is to take home the trophy for the team. Obviously this [the Ballon d’Or] is maybe in the back of my mind, but it’s not what I’m thinking about most. You need to keep a cool head. We are very excited but, as has been mentioned, we need to be calm, cool, collected, serious but smiling, because this is an incredible moment for us.

Dembele surely knows that Inter is not an easy opponent, and if he wants to win the trophy for his team, he will have to step up and help his team in every possible way. Dembele also praised his opponents during his press conference.

Inter Milan is a wonderful team that deserves their place in the final. They’ve been playing for four or five years now, this team. They know how to give this team a run for their money

He has also scored a goal or assisted in the last five UCL knockout games. The games were the second leg of the round of 16 against Liverpool, both quarter-finals against Aston Villa, and both semi-finals against Arsenal.

The win for Paris Saint-Germain will surely put Dembele a bit ahead in the race, but there are a lot of international and club competitions coming ahead, including the UEFA Nations League and the FIFA Club World Cup. The weight of an international trophy is always important.
