Chelsea beat Real Betis 4-1 in the UEFA Conference League final to win the 4th edition of the competition. The venue for the final was Wrocław Stadium in Poland. After winning the finals, Chelsea became the first team to win all five UEFA Club competitions.
As predicted, Cole Palmer was the main man in Chelsea’s win and was also awarded the man of the match. He assisted twice, once for Enzo’s goal and once for Jackson’s goal. The other two goals were scored by Sancho and Caicedo.
Chelsea beat Real Betis in the UEFA Conference League final
The match started with Real Betis dominating in the first half, whereas Chelsea had some other plans after the start of the second half. One of the biggest surprises in the Chelsea starting line-up was that Malo Gusto started ahead of the club captain, Reece James.
First Half review
After a big surprise in the starting eleven of Chelsea, Real Betis troubled Malo Gusto quite a few times. In the 9th minute of the first half, Isco set up Ezzalzouli. He very calmly controlled the ball, and shot it with his left foot, and eventually the ball was in the back of the net. Real Betis went 1-0 up in the game.
Isco was just phenomenal, helping in attacking and tracking back at times. Basically, he was all over the pitch in the first half. The second big chance came for Real Betis in the 21st minute, when Ezzalzouli mocked Gusto and passed the ball to Cardoso. He blasted over the goal. Betis should have gone 2-0 up but didn’t.
Chelsea almost had 68% ball possession in the first half and also had some counterattacks, but failed to capitalise on them. The first half ended 1-0 to Real Betis.
Second Half review
Both teams made one halftime substitution. Chelsea brought in Reece James in place of Malo Gusto, whereas Romain Perraud came on for Ricardo Rodriguez for Betis.
Chelsea had a shout for a penalty in the 55th minute when Adrian came out to push the ball, and his hand hit Jackson, but the referee denied it. In the 65th minute, Cole Palmer found himself in an unmarked position and crossed the ball in the box. It was headed into the net by Enzo Fernandes, and Chelsea were back in the game, 1-1.
Five minutes later, it was Cole Palmer again, but this time he made the goal for Nicolas Jackson, and the ball hit somewhere near his chest, and the ball went in. He wouldn’t care how it went in, as Chelsea were 2-1 up in one night.
The third goal was scored and assisted by the players who came off the bench. Colwill won the ball and passed it to Dewsbury-Hall. He carried the ball; it seemed a weak pass, but Sancho got and finished it beautifully. The scoreline was 3-1, and the ball was almost over.
In the 90+1 minute, Enzo passed the ball to Caicedo and took a shot from outside the box, and it was a goal. Chelsea surely had their hands on the trophy after that. The referee blew the final whistle, and Chelsea were the UEFA Conference League winners.
For the two assists and basically ruling the game in the second half, Cole Palmer was named the Man of the Match.
