FIDE Chess World Cup 2025 Host Country, Start Date, & Venue

This year India is going to be the host of the FIDE Chess World Cup 2025. The last time that the FIDE held the World Cup in India was in 2002, where Sir Vishwanathan Anand became the champion. The tournament will be taking place from 30 October 2025 to 27 November 2025.

The venue of the tournament has not been decided. The officials have a few cities in mind as the tournament will be near the venue will be available to the public. Around 206 players from around the world will be arriving in India for this iconic tournament.

Who are the Qualifiers

The players before entering the FIDE Chess World Cup need to be qualified. Players who can participate have to be among these categories:

  • The Recent World Champion
  • Top 4 players from the last World Cup
  • The Recent Women’s World Champion
  • Players from U-20 World Championship
  • Players with highest rating as of June 2025 in FIDE
  • Extra 13 spots for players not qualified from the above list
  • Top 100 national federations players with one spot each from the 2024 Chess Olympiad open
  • 2 Nominees from the Organizers
  • 4 Nominees from the FIDE President
