We are all set for the eleventh edition of the Chess World Cup, which will happen this year, that is 2025. The host for the 11th edition is India, whereas the dates for the Chess World Cup are 30th of October to 27th of November. Basically, the city will be confirmed by FIDE soon. The last edition of the Chess World Cup happened in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 30th July to 24th August. There were a total of 206 participants competing in the tournament. The current World Number One Chess player, Magnus Carlsen, was the winner as he defeated India’s Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa in the final. Praggnanandhaa was just 17th years old at the time, and Magnus was 31. The United States’ Fabiano Caruana ended in third place.

The first ever edition of the Chess World Cup happened in 2000 with 24 players. Viswanathan Anand, one of the greatest chess players, won the World Cup. He defeated the Russian Evgeny Bareev in the final. Two years later, it was again Viswanathan Anand to win the Chess World Cup. It was more special as India was the host of that Chess World Cup. He defeated Ubzen’s Rustam Kasimdzhanov in the final.

India to host the Chess World Cup after 23 years

This will be the first time in 23 years that India will host the Chess World Cup since the last time they hosted in Hyderabad in 2022. The dates for the same are 30th October to 27 November. Basically, the city will be announced soon for all the games. Same as the previous two editions, there will be a total of 206 participants in the Chess World Cup.

Basically, the top three of the Chess World Cup 2025 get automatic qualification for the 2026 Candidates Tournament. Every player obviously wants a direct qualification, and we can see tough competition between all the players.
