The All India Football Federation was in need of a new head coach for the Indian National Football Team. Basically, Manolo Marquez stepped down as the head coach just a few weeks ago. Xavi Hernandez, one of the greatest names in football history, applied for the role of the head coach of the Indian National Team. He was rejected. Xavi Hernandez is basically a midfielder who played almost his whole career with the FC Barcelona team in the Spanish League, La Liga. He was with the club for almost 17 years and won nearly 25 trophies. Xavi was also successful in winning trophies for his national side, Spain. He returned to FC Barcelona as a coach in November 2021. Xavi basically helped his team in their struggling phase, as he helped the team win the La Liga in his first full season, 2022/2023.
Why AIFF Rejected Xavi?
More than 170 coaches around the world applied for the head coach role of the Indian National Football Team. Out of them, Xavi Hernandez, one of the greatest midfielders, was the one. As the reports suggest, the biggest reason for rejecting Xavi was financial demands. It is fair to say that the best will demand more, and to get the best, you have to pay more.
Selecting Xavi as the head coach would surely change the structure of Indian Football. The guy understands football more than the other applicants, as he has played at an elite level and also managed on the best team, Barcelona. He managed FC Barcelona in a tough period and got the best out of the squad he had been given. FC Barcelona almost had no resources to provide to Xavi, but he helped them lift the La Liga title in the 2022-2023 season.

Lamine Yamal is the best example. Xavi gave him his debut when he was 16. Currently, he is one of the best players in the world. Apart from Yamal, Xavi brought young talents such as Alejandro Balde, Marc Casado, and Fermin Lopez.
