Every driver always dreams of winning the Grand Prix and other races, and they have their name on the cup, which becomes a memory for them. Eventually, for some, it is their last race. Top 5 Formula 1 Drivers Who Crashed On-Track
Isack Hadjar (2025)
This was the most recent crash in Formula One, which happened at the British Grand Prix 2025. The weather conditions were not that great at the British Grand Prix 2025, as it was raining continuously. Racing Bulls’ driver Isack Hadjar crashed with Kimi Antonelli, who is a driver for Team Mercedes.
The visibility of the driver decreased due to the weather conditions, and he crashed. Eventually, the good news was that there was no injury to the driver, and all the credits needed to be given to modern cockpit safety.
Niki Lauda (1976)
This incident involving Niki Lauda crashing his car happened at the German Grand Prix in 1976. Niki Lauda was driving the Ferrari, and he basically lost control at the Bergwerk corner of the Nurburgring Nordschleife.
It was certainly the second lap at the 1976 German Grand Prix. Niki Lauda’s crash was very impactful, as they got a lot of burns and inhaled a lot of smoke. It was surely almost a death kind of experience Niki Lauda faced.
Michael Schumacher (1999)
The seven-time World Champion, Michael Schumacher, who also holds the record for the most wins and most podium finishes, had a car crash at the British Grand Prix in 1999.
We had just seen the race barely start, and in less than 40 seconds, Michael Schumacher’s car crashed at the Stowe corner. The reason his car crashed was that his rear brake failed. Michael Schumacher was injured, and his right leg was broken.
Felipe Massa (2009)
This crash didn’t happen at the main Grand Prix race but happened during the qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2009. The incident happened as a spring of Rubens Barrichello’s car, who was in the Brawn GP team, hitting his helmet. Felipe Massa was driving his car at a speed of upwards of 160 mph.
This resulted in a very bad injury for the Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro driver. He got his skull fracture and suffered a brain concussion. Felipe Massa was soon operated on for his injury.
Robert Kubica (2007)
Eventually, Robert Kubica was driving for the Sauber BMW team in the Canadian Grand Prix in 2007. The reason for the crash was that Robert Kubica had a collision with the barrier at turn 10.
He was at a very high speed. During that crash, he did not suffer any major injuries, but he had a small sprain in his leg. After two weeks, he was back on track, and he started the French Grand Prix.
