After South Africa defeated Australia in the final of the third edition of the World Test Championship, the new cycle for the World Test Championship begins in June 2025. The International Cricket Council has put the WTC 2025-27 schedule out, and all the teams are ready for the fourth edition.
There are going to be a total of twenty-seven series in the two-year cycle. In the twenty-seven series, there will be a total of 71 test matches. All the teams participating in the World Test Championship play six series with six different opponents. In the six series that the teams play, they play three at home and three away from home.
The nine teams that are going to participate in the World Test Championship this time are India, New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, Bangladesh, England, Sri Lanka, the West Indies, and Pakistan. Many teams play their series against Ireland, Zimbabwe, and Afghanistan as they are test-playing nations, but will not fight for the trophy.
All the teams have a different number of matches that they play. England play the most, 21 matches, while Australia play 20 and India play 19 matches. To make it fair, the points are calculated as a percentage of points won. The top two teams will play in the final in 2027 for the test mace. Basically, there is no confirmation on the venue.
