After two years of avoiding relegation to the Championship, two-time European Champions Nottingham Forest have gone on to bigger and better things in the 2024-25 campaign. With a chance of competing in the league phase of the Champions League.

They have only won one of their last five top-flight battles as they navigate towards a Champions League place. Nuno Espirito Santos’ side has fallen to sixth in the Premier League. Two points from Newcastle United and Chelsea in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Teams news, Injury updates, and expected XI

Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest will again be without one of their key wingers, Callum Hudson-Odoi, who has been ruled out this weekend because of a hamstring injury. There are question marks about the fitness of first-choice defender Murillo, who limped off at Selhurst Park on Monday night. If he cannot play at the City Ground, Morato would join Nikola Milenkovic in the centre of defence.

Expected XI- Sels, Aina, Milenkovic, Murillo, Williams, Sangare, Anderson, Dominguez, Gibbs-White, Elanga, and Wood

Leicester City

Leicester are without their first-choice goalkeeper as Mads Hermansen is going to be out for the rest of the season following a hernia. Bobby De Cordova-Reid (muscle), Abdul Fatawu (knee), Stephy Mavididi (muscle), and Ricardo Pereira also occupy the treatment table next to the Danish keeper. Facundo Buonanotte missed the victory over Southampton due to a concussion, and the Brighton & Hove Albion loanee is a doubt for the match this Sunday.

Expected XI- Stolarczyk, Justin, Coady, Faes, Thomas, Ndidi, Skipp, McAteer, Ayew, El Khannouss and Vardy

Key Players

Chris Wood (Nottingham Forest)

Wood has had a remarkable 2024–25 Premier League season with Nottingham Forest, scoring 19 times and sitting fourth in the Golden Boot standings. Most of Wood’s goals have come from first-time finishes. It is noteworthy, for instance, that he scored a hat-trick (with all goals scored via first-time finishes) in a remarkable 7–0 thrashing of Brighton earlier in the season. Wood became the first Forest player to score a hat-trick at the City Ground since 1987, reinforcing just how good this season has been

Facundo Buonanotte (Leicester City)

Buonanotte has been one of the few positives during a difficult Leicester City season, scoring five times across competitions. Buonanotte’s match-winning goal in a 1–0 win away at Bournemouth represented a tangible example of his match-winning ability. Though Leicester has been relegated, Buonanotte has provided Foxes fans with some moments of inspiration. Buonanotte’s growth this season suggests he might have a bigger role to play in Leicester’s plans for the future.

Predictions

Nottingham Forest should win the game as per their performance this season, but the story of the last five games is different. The result matters that much for Leicester as they have already been relegated. Nottingham are the favourites to win.
